RETROSPECTIVE

12-vuotias Salla asuu pienessä Pohjois-Suomen kylässä ottovanhempiensa Kirstin ja Antin kanssa. Salla on rohkea ja itsepäinen tyttö. Hän pitää luonnosta ja liikkuu mielellään metsässä, jossa hän eräänä päivänä tapaa susia. Poronhoito on seudun tärkeä elinkeino, joten Sallan havainnot ovat uhka monelle poromiehelle. Salla ja hänen ystävänsä Matias ryhtyvät pelastusoperaatioon kahden sudenpennun pelastamiseksi salametsästäjiltä. Erityisesti niitä on suojeltava ilkeältä ja kierolta Venesmaalta, joka tappaa myös poroja salaa. Susiongelman lisäksi Sallalla on toinenkin huolenaihe. Hänen biologinen äitinsä Laila tulee yllättäen takaisin kotiseudulleen. Salla ei aluksi tiedä kuka Laila oikeasti on, mutta hän kuulee kaikenlaisia ilkeitä huhuja, joita Lailasta liikkuu kylällä.

12-year-old Salla lives in a small town in Northern Finland with her foster parents Kirsti and Antti. Salla is a brave and stubborn girl who likes nature. She often takes walks in the forest, and one day spots some wolves. Since reindeer herding is an important source of livelihood in the area, Salla's observations are a threat to many reindeer herders. Salla and her friend Matias plan to rescue two wolf cubs from poachers. The cubs need to be protected especially from the mean and crooked Venesmaa, who secretly kills reindeers, as well. Salla has another concern too. Her biological mother Laila returns unexpectedly to her home neighbourhood. At first, Salla doesn't know who Laila really is, but she hears all sorts of nasty rumours about Laila in the town.
