IRIS

Hemmoteltu Iris viettää fiiniä elämää taiteilijaäitinsä ja tämän ystävien kanssa Tukholman seurapiireissä 1890-luvulla. Eräänä päivänä koittaa hirmuinen pettymys äidin lähtiessä Pariisin-junalle ilman Iristä, joka laitetaan Ahvenanmaalle seilaavaan veneeseen. Ahvenanmaalla vastassa ovat talonpoikaeno ja joukko saaristolaisia, joiden elämänmenoon Iriksen on koetettava sopeutua, vaikkei hän aluksi tahdo huolehtia muusta kuin itsestään ja lemmikkipossustaan. Tyttö näkee painajaisia kuolleista, on itsepäinen eikä osaa olla valehtelematta uusille ystävilleen. Kun äiti palaa vanhalle kotisaarelleen hakemaan tytärtään, selviää ettei hänkään ole ollut aivan rehellinen.

Elokuva- ja teatteriohjaaja Ulrika Bengts (s. 1962) on valmistunut Tukholman Dramatiska institutetista ja on ohjannut useita lyhytelokuvia, televisiosarjoja ja dokumentteja. Iris on hänen ensimmäinen pitkä elokuvansa ja ensimmäisiä Suomessa tehtyjä ruotsinkielisiä lastenelokuvia.

A spoiled girl, Iris, lives a fancy life in Stockholm with her artist mother and their adult friends in the 1890's. One day Iris has to face a tremendous disappointment when her mother leaves for the train to Paris, leaving Iris all alone to travel on a boat to the Aland archipelago. There, she is greeted by her peasant uncle and a bunch of other islanders with personalities as strong as her own. Surprised to meet people who don’t agree with her every move, Iris has no choice but to try start to get along with them and to accept participating in all the daily chores, although she’d much rather only care for herself - and maybe her pet pig. Iris has nightmares about the dead and can’t stop lying to her new friends. When her mother returns to the island, which also once was her home, it turns out that she hasn’t been able to be completely honest either.

Finnish film and theatre director Ulrika Bengts (b. 1962) is a graduate from the University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre in Stockholm and has directed several short films, television series and documentaries. Iris is her first feature film, and one of the first films for children in the Swedish language made in Finland.
