KILPA-AJO | The race

11-vuotias Mary on pirteä punatukkainen tyttö, jolla on suuret unelmat kilpa-autoilusta. Elämää hankaloittaa kova työ kotifarmilla, vanhempien uhkaava ero sekä koulukiusaaminen. Maryn ainoa ystävä on Tom, jonka kanssa hän ajelee itse rakennetuilla karting-autoilla ympäri maaseutua. Maryn kotikylään järjestetään kilpa-ajot, ja Mary lyö vetoa kiusaajansa kanssa kisan voitosta: jos Mary voittaa, kiusaaminen loppuu. Kilpa-autosta tulee Maryn ja tämän isän yhteinen projekti, mutta riittävätkö rahkeet kisan voittoon, loppuuko kiusaaminen ja miten käyn Maryn perheelle?

Ohjaaja André F. Nebe syntyi 1973 Berliinissä. Hän opiskeli lakia Humboldtin yliopistossa ja elokuva-alaa Hampurin yliopistossa. Hänen lyhytelokuvansa Kunstgriff on palkittu muun muassa pääpalkinnolla Saksalaisen elokuvan festivaalilla Mainzissa sekä tuomariston erikoismaininnalla Taipein opiskelijaelokuvakilpailussa.

11-year-old Mary is a spirited, red-headed girl, who has huge dreams about racing. Her life is made more complicated by hard work at the home farm, the threat of her parents divorcing and bullying at school. With her only friend Tom, Mary drives hand-built co-carts around the countryside. Mary's hometown organizes a race, and Mary places a bet with her bully: If she wins the race, the bullying will stop. Building a race car becomes Mary's and her father's shared project. But will she win the race and does the bullying stop? And what will happen to her family?

Director André F. Nebe was born in Berlin in 1973. He studied law at the Humboldt University and film industry at the Hamburg University. Nebe's short film Tricky fingers was awarded the first prize at the German Cinema Festival in Mainz, and a Special mention of the jury in the Golden Lion International Student Film Competition in Taipei.
