Tom is unhappy with school, his parents' divorce and his mum's new boyfriend. One day, at the ruins of a farmhouse on the nearby moors, Tom comes across a sheepdog called Tess who takes him magically to WWII era. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Melvin Burgess.

During his career Harley Cokeliss (b. 1945) has directed many action films and thrillers. He has also directed fantasy serials for TV. An angel for May won the Starboy award in Oulu in 2003.
