“Eat, sleep, rave, repeat” is probably the life motto of Aurora, a young woman in her early 20s living her best life above the Arctic Circle in the small town of Rovaniemi.

One chilly morning as an ending to a walk of shame, bailiffs come knocking on Aurora and her alcoholic father’s door. Watching her childhood home get distrained, Aurora manages to take her father to rehab but realizes she is now homeless herself. As a solution, the young beautician decides to move abroad to Norway where people get paid better. Or at least that’s what her friend told her.

Before take-off Aurora’s life suddenly changes its course when she stumbles across Darian at a fast-food kiosk at the end of yet another boozy night out. Darian is desperate to find asylum for himself and his 8-year-old daughter and proposes to Aurora, who isn’t fond of the idea of marrying a total stranger. To make some extra cash, she decides to help Darian to find a Finnish wife, which is easier said than done.

The first full-length movie by the Finnish director Miia Tervo depicts many of the problems of the 2010s in a refreshing way and remodels a bunch of Finnish stereotypes at the same time. Aurora takes a stand on themes such as homelessness, alcoholism and immigration with a realistic touch.
