The magic life of V, a documentary by Tonislav Hristov, sheds light on alcoholism and domestic violence through the eyes of a 25-year-old Veera.

Because of her unbalanced father, Veera has gone through traumatizing events that still haunt her in her adult life. Unfortunately therapy does not help her enough, though she can examine her actions, emotions and reactions with understanding and wisdom.

Veera’s motivation towards her hobby, larping, and her trauma are intertwined. As a practical solution, Veera has been passionate about live-action role-playing since the age of 11. Engaging in larping around the world allows her to adopt a new identity, and in the guise of her character, V, she is able to do things that frighten her in real-life situations.

She also introduces the hobby to her older brother, Ville, who is bullied for his disability and has started drinking with their father for this reason.

The atmosphere of the documentary is as calm and tranquil as a wintry morning, which is why it is easy for the audience to sit down for a moment and step into someone else’s shoes. After watching The magic life of V, one can immediately abandon the bias against larping and the stigma of nerds. Moreover, Veera’s burning will to find ways to survive can give hope or, at the very least, peer support to those who struggle with similar issues.
